The mompreneur struggle is real!

Entrepreneur or not, being a mom is challenging. (Wonderful, but challenging!) It doesn’t matter if you are stay-at-home mom, working-out-of-the-home mom, or working-from-home mom, each has its own unique challenges. I should know, I’ve done them all.

But, for me, being a mompreneur is hard in a different sort of way than when I worked full-time, dropped my kids at daycare & felt the guilt of missing time with them. Or, when I stayed home with my kids but also longed for an exciting & fulfilling career.

Being a mompreneur forces you out of your comfort zone. 

You have a dream, something amazing you want to create, a way you want to contribute to the world, and a life you want to build for your family.

Great! As I'm sure you've discovered by now, the only way to get there is through a big ole river of uncomfortableness.

You put yourself out there daily. You risk (and often receive) rejection & criticism.

You show up even when no one is looking. You keep going even when you don't feel like doing the work. 

Sometimes it feels lonely. You wonder If anyone is paying attention; if you are really making a difference.

I didn’t expect this. And honestly, I didn’t know exactly how to deal with all of the uncomfortable feelings that came with mompreneurship. I started to experience major overwhelm which lead to major anxiety which lead to things like emotional eating and not taking care of myself. Oh, and did I mention I’m a personal trainer & nutrition coach who was trying to help women eat better & exercise more? (So, yeah, that wasn’t working so good.)

Building a business & emotional eating often go hand-in-hand.

If we don’t know how to deal with the uncomfortable feelings that inevitably come with entrepreneurship we will turn to other things (ice cream? potato chips? wine? kids left-over holiday candy?) to escape our feelings. As many of us know all too well, the downside to this is that it can lead to unwanted consequences such as weight gain, health issues, lack of energy, and that nagging feeling that we are not showing up as our best selves.

For me, I began to truly understand & get a handle on this when I started doing a life coaching course. (You can check it out here!) What I learned was how to manage my mind, deal with my emotions properly and create the habits that would help me get to my goals.

It's not about willpower, deprivation or mentally beating ourselves into submission.

It's about understanding how the brain works and why it is often keeping us stuck in patterns that don't serve us. Once we understand this and how to deal with it properly we unlock the key to managing our mind, our emotions and our life. 

I love working with mompreneurs because so many of the tools we need to grow a business can be applied to our own self-care. 

Weight loss & self-care are not just about knowledge. It's about practicing the daily skills of commitment, personal integrity, planning, time-management, and doing things even when we don't feel like it. We do this for our kids. We do this for our business. Now it's time to do this for ourselves.

I have worked in the health & fitness industry for over 15 years as a personal trainer, nutrition coach and college instructor. 

I am a nationally certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine & a Level 1 nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, two of the most respected organizations in the industry. I was also the department head & lead instructor for a college-level Personal Trainer program before moving in 2015. I now work part-time as a college instructor teaching  courses such as Fitness Assessment, Exercise Program Design and Nutrition for Fitness & Training

My favorite role is being a mom to my two awesome (but spunky) girls and wife to an amazing husband who continuously supports me in all my ventures.
