Hi there! I'm Melissa.
I'm a personal trainer, nutrition coach, mom of two awesome (but spunky) girls, self-help junkie, podcast fanatic & chocolate lover.
Over the past 15 years I have had the privilege to work with clients of all shapes, sizes & ages and have helped them reach varying goals such as weight loss, increased muscle tone/size, improved health & reduction of chronic pain. In addition I have helped clients train for a specific fitness goal (5K, 10K, half /full-marathon, triathlon), prepare for a special event (wedding, reunion, vacation) or ease into a life transition (motherhood, menopause, retirement).
However, my passion is working with those who are just starting (or re-starting) their health & wellness journey. The world of fitness & nutrition can often be overwhelming & confusing. I love to teach the foundations of exercise, nutrition & weight loss and to work with clients to find effective health & fitness solutions that are realistic & sustainable. (Reaching your goals doesn't mean much if you can't sustain them!) You don't have to spend hours in the gym or the kitchen to see really effective changes. I teach habits & skills that you can implement for life. If you lose your way, don't worry, I'll teach you how to quickly & easily get back on your path.
Exercise & nutrition have always been my greatest source of self-care and I love helping others find their own path to health & wellness through exercise & healthy eating. I am a big believer that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to exercise, diet or health. It is about what works best for YOU. My job is to provide tools, assist, educate, motivate and cheer my clients on to success.
Being healthy is not about restrictive diets, draining workouts, willpower, white-knuckling or mentally beating yourself into submission. A big part of health is finding inner peace, learning to love & accept yourself wherever you are on the journey and growing in all areas of your life.
I am a nationally certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine & a Level 1 nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, two of the most respected organizations in the health & fitness industry. I was also the department head & instructor for a college-level personal training program before moving to Charleston in 2015. I continue to work part-time for two college programs teaching online & face-to-face courses such as Fitness Assessment & Exercise Program Design and Nutrition for Fitness & Training.
